As
the popularity of NASCAR racing has grown, the awareness of
Charlotte has increased, because most of the race teams have their
headquarters, or at least a fabrication shop in Charlotte, North
Carolina. One of the attractions of Charlotte that is growing every
year are the ever increasing number of race fans who come to the
Charlotte area just to tour the race shops of drivers, such as Dale
Earnhardt Jr., the driver for DEI the team begun by his late father.
Dale Earnhardt Sr. was always one of the most popular and most
despised drivers on the circuit, depending on whether you were a fan
of his or one of his detractors pulling for another team.
The DEI racing complex has the nickname “Garage Mahal” because the
Earnhardt family built the facility so much nicer than anything the
racing world had seen before. |

Not only is this facility a race car
fabrication plant and business office, it also has a museum which
showcases cars which Dale Earnhardt Sr. drove throughout his illustrious
career. The museum also has a gift shop where you may purchase
collectibles which are not available from any other source. Most of the
other race teams also have nice facilities and are open to tours by the
public.
Another large part of the racing heritage of Charlotte is Lowes Motor
Speedway, where all types of NASCAR races, Trucks, Busch, and Nextel
Cup, are held throughout the year. If you are a casual fan of racing you
owe it to yourself to attend a race in person because there is nothing
like being in the stands with the other one hundred thousand screaming
fans as forty-three, eight hundred horsepower cars take the green flag
and roar past you and continue this pace for five hundred miles.
Football pales in comparison. While visiting the race track you may
enjoy a tour of the facility and even take a ride around the track at
speeds up to 160 miles per hour in one of Richard Petty’s driving school
specially prepared and modified race cars with a professional driver. Do
this ride and it will be tough for your friends to top you in the “guess
what I did during my vacation this year” contest.
Other professional sports are offered in Charlotte, both an NBA team and
an NFL franchise. This year the Charlotte Bobcats of the NBA will play
in a brand new $265 million city arena. The Carolina Panthers of the NFL
are always one of the best teams in their division and play their home
games in Charlotte.
If golf is more your game this is a great destination, with over eighty
challenging courses to test your skill.
Charlotte’s location and the excellent highway system that serves
Charlotte make this area a good base to visit the surrounding
attractions such as the North Carolina Mountains.
Charlotte is a growing city with a very strong and diversified economy;
note the fact that Charlotte is the second largest financial center in
the United States only behind New York City.
The dining facilities in Charlotte leave nothing to be desired, varied
menus to please any appetite. The array of lodging in the Charlotte area
will please any taste and budget. Visit soon this is a real memory
maker. |
